My Pride and joy and serious eyesight saver!
Curved frameless gaming monitor
My eyes have never been the greatest. Or let’s rephrase that: one was great, the other one wasn’t any good from the outset. So for practical purposes you could call my left eye blind.
And sitting in front of computer hasn’t improved my good eye either.
I use an eye safer app – something else I review.
But after reading up I decided to give myself a break and buy a curved monitor.
Two and half years on I can honestly say: It’s the best thing I ever did for my eyes!
Why Curved Monitor?
Curved monitors are considered better for the eyes due to their ergonomic design that mimics the natural curvature of the human eye. A Curved monitor will reduce eye strain by allowing users to see everything on the screen from roughly the same focal distance. This helps in reducing symptoms like blurred vision, difficulty focusing, eye strain.
The curvature of the screen on a curved monitor provides a more immersive experience. This reduces the need for the eyes to constantly refocus, and allows users to see the edges of the screen in their peripheral vision. And that enhances comfort and minimizes eye strain.
Generally, a larger curvature, such as 1800R, offers a more immersive experience, while a smaller curvature, like 3800R, provides a gentler curve that is often preferred for productivity tasks.
Curved monitors with a curvature that closely matches the human field of view, such as those with smaller R values like 1000R, are even more beneficial for reducing eye strain and providing a more comfortable viewing experience.
Why to get or not to get a Curved Monitor
Pros
- Immersive Viewing Experience
Curved monitors excel in providing an immersive viewing experience by wrapping the display around the user’s field of vision. This design mimics the natural shape of the human eye, enhancing engagement and reducing eye strain during extended use. - Enhanced Depth Perception
The curvature of curved monitors enhances depth perception, making on-screen content appear more three-dimensional. This feature is particularly beneficial for gamers, improving their sense of distance and positioning within the game environment for a more immersive gameplay experience. - Reduced Distortion and Glare
Curved monitors minimize image distortion and glare by directing light towards the user, optimizing visibility and reducing the impact of external lighting sources. This feature is advantageous in environments with challenging lighting conditions. - Wide Field of View
The curvature of curved monitors provides a wider field of view compared to flat screens, offering a more encompassing visual experience. This wider view enhances multitasking, video editing, and immersive gaming by reducing the need for excessive head movement. - Improved Focus and Comfort
Curved monitors enhance focus and comfort by guiding the eyes towards the center of the display, reducing the need for constant eye movement. This feature improves viewing comfort, especially during prolonged usage. - Aesthetic Appeal
Curved monitors boast a sleek and modern design that adds a touch of sophistication and style to any workspace or gaming setup. Their aesthetic appeal complements the overall look of the environment. - Gaming/Movie Experience
Gamers and movie enthusiasts benefit from the immersive experience offered by curved monitors, matching the natural curvature of the human eye for a more engaging view with enhanced peripheral vision. This feature enhances the overall gaming and movie-watching experience.
Cons
- Price and Availability
Curved monitors come with a significant drawback in terms of cost, being generally more expensive than flat monitors. This price gap can deter budget-conscious buyers, and the availability of curved monitors may be limited compared to traditional flat screens. - Adaptation Period
Transitioning from a flat monitor to a curved one may require an adaptation period. Some users may initially find the curvature uncomfortable or unfamiliar, impacting their usability and experience. The adjustment period varies among individuals, with some needing more time to fully adjust to the curved display. - Space and Compatibility
Curved monitors typically have a larger physical footprint due to their design, occupying more desk space and potentially posing challenges in smaller workstations. Compatibility issues may arise with certain mounting systems or multi-monitor setups, limiting customization flexibility. - Viewing Angles
Achieving optimal viewing angles can be challenging with curved monitors, especially when viewed from the sides. The screen curvature may lead to image distortion and color inaccuracies at extreme angles, which can be a drawback in scenarios where multiple viewers need to share the monitor. - Content Compatibility
Not all content is optimized for curved displays, potentially resulting in distorted visuals or inconsistent viewing experiences. Some applications, videos, or websites may not fully utilize the screen curvature, disappointing users expecting seamless display optimization for all content. - Potential Motion Sickness
The curvature of curved monitors, particularly during fast-paced gaming or video content, may induce motion sickness or discomfort in some individuals. The immersive experience provided by the curved screen may not be well-tolerated by everyone. - Portability and Flexibility
Curved monitors are less portable and flexible compared to flat monitors due to their larger size and specific curvature. Moving them between locations or adjusting them to different viewing preferences may be less convenient.
That having been said, my monitor has a 1500R Super curved design.
