Art has always been at the core of who I am. It’s how I make sense of the world and how I express what words can’t quite hold.
My creative process is fluid and instinctive — never confined to a formula or a single style. Each piece begins as a vague idea of an outcome and evolves from there.
I work exclusively in digital media. There’s no canvas, no brushes, no paint — just me and the computer, and a desire to tell stories and create beauty through color, light, and shadows.
The WHY?
My Creative inspiration
I’m old. And old people get nostalgic for a time they cannot go back to.
Actually, nobody can ever go back.
You can return to places, but where there once was a breathtaking view, there is now a wall of trees. Where there was meadow is a parking lot. The river has been dammed. The town has grown polluted.
You may even go back to a place, and it is 100% unchanged.
It still is not the same.
YOU have changed over time.
The feeling from “back then” cannot be duplicated.
This realization brings with it a feeling of loss, grief, and sadness.
But I also have these memories in my heart. These visual memories and all the times when I was happy, content, or just in plain awe of life.
And my heart is rich.
And my heart wants to bring these pictures out and share the emotions.
And that is how my art comes about.
The WHAT?
My artistic vision
My art is all over the place because so have I.
I have seen snowy Alps and bone-dry stone deserts.
I have lived in huge cities and places on the other side of nowhere.
I have owned nothing beyond what was in my backpack, and more than any one person needs.
I have felt the comfort and security of a relationship and the desperate loneliness when it ended.
I have felt the freedom when nobody knows who you are, where you are, or what you are doing. And with it the realization that I am all there is between me and disaster. And that made me step up and be self-sufficient.
As an only child, I have always been my own best company. This has worked in my favor. I am happy to live alone with animals and my art. Nothing distracts me from creating.
The MISSION
What’s in it for you
My mission is simple:
Create beauty in these ever-increasingly ugly times.
I cannot change what is happening in the world, but I can help you create a little bubble of happiness in your home. Give you a little something that makes you happy, gives you joy.
Over time I have created 3 separate outlets for my art:
- Susanne McMillan Art – the mothership, so to speak.
Here you get the widest selection of both my art and the mediums it comes on. You want acrylic, we do that. Ditto for metal and canvas. And of course framed art. - Art On Posters – for those who want affordable prices for unframed prints on museum-quality paper. Buy the frame locally with the money you saved on shipping one.
- Art You Can Print – for the do-it-yourselfer and people in need of art for their print-on-demand shop.
What all my outlets have in common is reasonable prices for quality wall art.
I couldn’t live with myself if I knew that I cut corners to make a few extra dollars.
For my Belize people:
You see any of my art and want it – I have a local printer who does a nice job printing on canvas and a framer who uses mahogany and stains it to the color of your choice.
Prices are to be determined by size and costs at the time of order.
“If not me – then who?”
“There is never more of a beginning than now.”
